This inservice presentation focuses on empowering underrepresented students in STEM by addressing identity-based barriers. Participants will explore inclusive teaching strategies, mentorship practices, and practical activities to help students rebuild confidence in their STEM abilities. Drawing on real-world examples—while maintaining student privacy—we will discuss how collaborative learning, representation, and ongoing reflection foster a sense of belonging. Attendees will leave with concrete tools to create more equitable, supportive, and transformative STEM learning environments.

In 1905, while working as a clerk in a Swiss patent office, Albert Einstein revolutionized the world of physics by introducing a new theory of space and time: Special Relativity. Surprisingly, much of the mathematics associated with Special Relativity is accessible to students with a strong background in algebra. This class will explore the Lorentz Transformation and some of the unusual consequences of Special Relativity including time dilation and length contraction using fundamental techniques of algebra.
